Ghost? -copyright erie chapman'16  Life's most interesting questions are the ones without answers. When the "solution" does not appear the question stays open in ways that illuminate our most fascinating energies.

The reflection in the photograph is just that – a reflection shot through a window echoing off shower walls in a new shape. It is the resonance of light & shadow & ceramic tiles. Yet, it evokes our idea of an apparition.

Most people disdain apparitions because they do not fit with their definition of what is "real." Perhaps, we misunderstand.

I have had many experiences beyond the sentient, times when I shot out of my body & saw the world from another perspective, flying dreams, near-death experiences (starting at age four) when I felt God's presence. I have been with people who offer convincing statements of "ghost" encounters including accurately describing ancestors they could not have seen or near-death experiences in which they outline events & people they observed while completely unconscious.

Lacking words, we dismiss such experiences or arrogantly define them as something only we know because we are so special.

Caregivers beside one who is dying often hear that person talk of seeing "ghosts," beings who have left the earth, some familiar some not. Are they spotting the lingering presence of someone occupying post-life consciousness in flickers of their life-form?

Abraham Hicks describes a range of energies flowing through the world like shape shifting rivers. Hicks writes of core vibrations that create a "Law of Attraction" – that which draws us to each other or not.  "The closer you come to being in harmony with your Source Energy, the more in harmony you are with each other."

What a valuable insight for caregivers. As we become conscious of ways to align with "source" we may be tapping what most religions describe as God. As we soften our definitions of time & reality we may hear whispers of eternal energy, vibrations that flow through trees, rocks & all things on this earth & beyond it.

Who are we to say that consciousness does not continue after we leave our bodies or was present even before we entered that once-tiny body called a baby?

Provocative post Chip! Yes who’s to say what lies beyond our “everyday” consciousness? For me, I’ve had times in nature, usually fishing, but once or twice while standing at the top of a mountain, sensing vast time and space from that vantage point and wondering just what I’m experiencing.
And further, I often pause in my daily round and am suddenly drawn to glimpses of my father, mother, or brother, who seem to want to hear from me right away, right then! Usually I smile but I have talked a bit with them and felt their comfort at my side. I say this humbly and without great knowledge of what’s going on but I do believe in spiritual connections both small and large, both in nature and its reality and also when silent, as just before or after a nap I’ve indulged in. Again, who’s to say but it’s certainly an integral part of my existence.

This is a wonderful essay, Erie, filled with experience and insight, giving rise to many ideas and experiences of my own.
    “Let go into the Mystery/
You’ve got to open up your heart/
You’ve got to dance and sing
And be alive in the Mystery
And be joyous and give thanks
And let yourself go.” ~Van Morrison

I love your opening line, Erie because it offers space for possibilities and a sense of hopefulness.
Your image is fascinating, one that opens a window to the realm of Spirit; of what is unseen but perhaps more real that our temporal existence.
Yes, it is a prevalent phenomenon that people see and talk with loved ones who appear in the last phase of this earthly life. Hick offers a marvelous image of shape shifting rivers of energy.
And… “As we soften our definitions of time & reality we may hear whispers of eternal energy, vibrations that flow through trees, rocks & all things on this earth & beyond it.” is so beautiful to reflect upon… thank you Erie

Interesting subject. What you have written about this interesting subject I have heard things said to me by my Hospice patients shortly before their passing. One told me about her brother being present in her hallway. Another, the family member informed me that the patient was talking with her family member at night before her passing. In my own time of discomfort while alone in the hospital in my dream one night my deceased father bade me to be with him and I told him that my time was not yet. It was a comforting experience.
