This is all I have for you today. May your soul live each day in peace.

The Comfort of Fog

I wish the morning fog, whose cotton hands
cling to trees & clothe every bush, would stay
all day and through this night.

I wish she would keep her cloak close
around me, ghost each window
as I walk about my home…

Fog_1

She softens all the edges, rounds
off the fence posts, silvers
the skin of leaves.

Beyond her arms, on the other side
of her pillowed body, the world
calls for my help.

This morning mist swallows
words in her
sighs.

Let me hide here
in her a little
longer,

grow stronger
in the comfort
of fog.

What a gorgeous little poem. If this is “all you have” for us today than it is a beautiful gift. I love the feeling of fog (if I’m not in a car) and now you have helped me see it more deeply and richly. I was so “comforted” by the first reading of your poem that I read it two more times and then, following one of your other recommendations, I closed my eyes for five whole minutes and just rested inside the thickest fog I could imagine. I found myself on a bench in London (where I have never been before). It was wonderful and restful and the peace that came to me remains. Thank you, Erie.

I don’t usually write a post, but I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy the poetry you post on this site. It is very restful and curative for me.

I wish for you days suspended in time
    Where stillness descends
    Shrouding you in gentle rest
As loves radiance saturates your soul
And all traces of weariness dissolve
    Leaving you to bathe in
The warm glow of God’s peace
    And the wisdom of know
