Children playing in fountain  The humidity proves that a summer day in the south can be hotter than any place in America. A string of fountains is a natural magnet.

Even in the picture of the cavorting children, notice that each is having her or his personal experience.

That is how we encounter God. What would  you speak into God's ear with the whispering voice of intimacy. Since God knows already it is our need to unburden.

Meister Eckhart wrote, "The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me." The same is true of the sacred ear. God listens because God is Love & Love offers a continuous quiet invitation. Accept it & receive the healing that matters.

You cannot tell others everything. Even if another promised otherwise they would pass judgment. They must because humanity compels discernment.

But, this is all too much. Fountains draw play, not analysis.

Look at the solitary child experiencing laughing droplets that soothe. What is he thinking? Only God knows.

What about the man walking by in the top left of the image? Is he secretly whispering in God's ear?

Erie fountain 7   The only thing unusual about my self-portrait amid the shower is that I, a so-called CEO, a trained trial lawyer, a business man & alleged adult have chosen to doff my business suit & wingtips to join the joy in the public fountains. To be baptized in water where children are playing.

The children appear poor in money & rich in spirt. Perhaps, I am rich in money & poor in spirit. The water brings healing to each of us

What else do I confess amid the energy of the fountain? I whispered it only in God's ear.

First of all I want to say Thank You to all of the contributors and commentators. It is so wonderful to see the diversity of experience that brings new aspects/thoughts to the reflections. It is truly marvelous to be touched by everyone’s words expressed here.
Erie, your three pictures are great illustrations of life with God. Looking at them I came up with possible new titles to go with them.
    1) Rainbow Spectrum of Love. (The sun and the clouds behind the trees, the spectrum of light bathing the children, not unlike a fountain raising up it’s cleansing powers…washing away that which dirties our selves. Children of all ages play in the fountains. It is all good.)
    2) The child lingers to ponder the spoken word. (Like a tree falling in the woods, can you hear it? The whispering of God? All alone but surrounded by the friendship the elements. The whispering of God. Take the time to listen.)
    3) Baptism anew. (Never to old for a reverend to have fun. Being the child of God. And you are not afraid.)
Your words also remind me of something I like to do. When I go to a place, any place where there a lot of people, I like to look at them and imagine there lives. What brought them here at this time in their life. Where are they going? Have I known them in a previous life? What are they laughing about. Are they really with that guy? So many souls to be at peace with.
I have been enriched by reading your written thoughts.

These are wonderful photos, Erie, silver geysers, effervescing through concrete amid the silhouettes of youngsters dancing with life. I love the boy’s pensive pose (or is he a seal?) It seems that you are being pensive as well, reflecting back on over your life. Walking with God and sharing our thoughts is a prayer of healing.
What a spontaneous and magnificent yes to life. Wish I could have been there for the laughter and exhilaration of that moment!
A prayer I was gifted with today was one I reflected upon frequently throughout my day in community… “If today you hear God’s voice, harden not your heart.” Psalm 95.
I agree with JVD, each comment shared blesses each of us.

Thank you, Liz. “What a spontaneous and magnificent yes to life.” Yes, it was for me. Some of the children looked at me with a kind of bemused curiosity: “What is this big guy doing here?” I confess I hesitated about joining in for exactly that reason – especially since I have been here before and just took photos. I’m glad I overcame my reluctance – and took my underwater camera in with me!

Your story Erie has been resonating with me since I read it.I was so happy for you as you stepped into and embraced the water and the moment. Marching forward Christian soldier to experience the moments. I was sharing with Liz yesterday that I have been pondering what I would whisper in God’s ear……………..Last night I had a long conversation with my little sister who just received news of a ductal carcinoma of her right breast…..she stated the quote of life is like a box of chocolates…I stated it is more like a pair of shoes…..we start with booties, shoes to help us to walk, to run to dance to march to hi heels to pumps to punk to cleets to climbing to a walking boot for broken foot to orthotics to slippers to flip flops. I think I would whisper to God to Thank him for my pair of shoes.
My Ballerina slipper and the combat boot.

Thanks so much for this lovely post, Ann (meant to respond sooner but was out of town.) First of all, so very sorry for what your sister is facing (and how this affects you.) Your comparison of our life pathway to a journey in different kinds of shoes is a fine simile. Nice choice with the ballet slippers and combat boots!
