Days 318-323 – “The Divine Blueprint”

Autumn girl   What shines through when we express our truest self? As always, John O'Donohue points the way. "The mystery and magic of being an individual," he writes, is "to discover and realize the divine blueprint in the soul."

   This is the life challenge for all of us just as it will be for my oldest granddaughter. Here, she gazes skyward as do all of us when we search the air for answers. 

   She bears the natural naïveté of her age. It is remarkable how many seas she will sail & disguises she will wear before she will know if she has found her way back to truth & fulfilled her individual calling. 

  If the blueprint of her soul is radically different from others she will still need to adapt to some of society's demands. Patterns will tempt her towards complacency. She may fall victim to hiding her finest talents in favor of safety. Hopefully, she will live her truest beauty. 

   The more variegated & unusual our soul's blueprint, the more courage it takes to live it. And the more dazzling the result if that courage & that destiny are embraced.

    Embrace your destiny! I’d like to see that phrase as a name on a small boat like the bright green canoe I had for 10 years on our nearby lake. I experienced many small but meaningful adventures over those years, as in my life taken as a whole, and I had quiet times when I realized that I was living a dream I had always had, to “live by the water”.
    At age 40, when I earned the first Ph.D. in our Chapman family, I felt a strong sense of self, moving toward my true being, well beyond the new initials after my name, and indeed I kept journeying until I ended up as a career counselor and professor–still enthusiastic, still wanting personal adventure, always enjoying hearing of another’s life journey–embracing my destiny forever!

    I love how you have captured the open mind and heart of your precious granddaughter Erie as she gazes heavenward with an expression of curiosity and wonder; her life is filled with promise.
    Upon awakening, my prayer is, “Use me God, where will you have me go and to whom shall you have me speak?” We are the vessels, the hands, feet, eyes, ear, heart and voice of the Holy Spirit.
    From you the gift of wisdom pours through to us as Light.

    Thank you Erie for such a mind and heart to guide the very young, middle aged and the very old as we journey through life and you have shed the light as what some of life experiences mean.
