Sunrise 1-4-2018I’ll Tell You How The Sun Rose

~by Emily Dickinson

I'll tell you how the sun rose,–
A ribbon at a time.
The steeples swam in amethyst,
The news like squirrels ran.
The hills untied their bonnets,
The bobolinks begun.
Then I said softly to myself,
"That must have been the sun!"

But how he set, I know not.
There seemed a purple stile
Which little yellow boys and girls
Were climbing all the while
Till when they reached the other side,
A dominie in gray
Put gently up the evening bars,
And led the flock away.

Thank you Liz for sharing this beautiful poem. The sun shines behind the tall trees. Your beautiful and colorful painting expresses it all.

This poem and your stunning painting remind me of a comment from my cousin, Terry, about what “serious business it is to impact another’s soul” to create “pockets of wellbeing.”
You have done that so beautifully, Liz- “a ribbon at a time.”
And startling to see you post because, before I saw it, I was working on one called “Morning Light.”

Thank you for visiting the JSW and for appreciating Dickinson’s wonderful expression. I thought it was a good accompaniment for my painting or vice versa.:-)

Oh, thanks so much, Suan. I love the images that Dickinson paints so majestically with her words. Thank you for taking the time to visit here and to offer a thoughtful affirmation.

Smile, I think they call that synchronicity, Erie. I love when that happens. There is great wisdom and truth in Terry’s comment so thank you for sharing it. My epiphany on this day is how we are present to one another and the quality of our relationships. Thank you for the lovely way you show up here bringing light for our well-being.
