Fireworks congrats  When ABC picked Barbara Walters to be the first woman anchor of the evening news years ago she was asked, "How do you explain your overnight success?"

"Overnight?" she answered. "I have been working my head off day & night for decades. There is nothing "overnight" about it."

Many think that great victories come suddenly. The quilt of real success is sewn with thousands of threads. And the threads vanish when the quilt is hung on a wall or spread across a bed.

Only the quilter understands the hard work it took. Only you know the number of failures you experienced to accomplish whatever has been meaningful in your life.

Caregiving's quilt is the cloth of compassion, courage & competence. Failure comes to those who turn their backs to other's needs or give up when persistence could have brought healing.

The "Congratulations" emblazoned in the sky are meant for you. You have sewn love's quilt & wrapped its warmth around another's need. Your quilt is beautiful because each thread represents an act of your kindness – a sacrifice you made by reaching to help instead of holding back.

   Thank you.

Your metaphor of quilting is perfect! I have a Sister in Law, Patricia, who knits for everyone she loves: gloves, caps, sweaters like the fine Mallard blue one she made just for me. I told Pat her knitting was a ministry and she smiled and looked at me and said, “Really?” I affirmed her gift of nimble fingers and her willingness and ability to give personal items, handmade, to so many people over the years.
Now, she proudly but discretely, claims her ministry with her soft smile and we are all the better for it. Yes, success comes in a myriad of ways: from Pat’s knitting to helping someone cross the street; to achieving astounding accomplishments that will benefit our world: curing forms of Cancer and diseases; teaching folks to read; volunteering in community agencies that offer care to all. Each “stitch” in the quilt of caring is a success; never doubt that and keep on keeping on!

This is such an encouraging and beautiful message for all caregivers, Erie. I am sharing it with many friend, family and colleagues. Certainly a timely message that is heartening to me and is received as blessing, which I return in kind to you.

Beautifully written Erie. People see the outcome of ones achievement. The saying goes “Rome was not built in a day”. I have a beautiful quilt given to me. It was patiently quilted by an elderly retired church member. I treasure and appreciate her kindness and generosity.
