Bridge"Prayer is the bridge between our conscious and unconscious lives.

Often there is a large abyss between our thoughts, words, and actions, and the many images that emerge in our daydreams and night dreams. To pray is to connect these two sides of our lives by going to the place where God dwells.

Prayer is “soul work” because our souls are those sacred centers where all is one and where God is with us in the most intimate way.

Thus, we must pray without ceasing so that we can become truly whole and holy."

By Henri Nouwen

How does one pray without ceasing? Is it a request, a sigh of relief, a cry for help, an expression of thank you dear God, a petition for a friend; a loved one, an ask for what we want or think we need, a longing, an awareness…

Is prayer a growing into our skin moment by moment, a little spark of healing, twinkles of insight, shedding what's no longer helpful, giving up the struggles, endless strategies and trusting…

Is prayer opening to receive and give, listening with your heart, pausing to understand, is prayer a question or an answer?

Each morning, is it living the question, "Where will you have me go, to whom will you have me speak and what will you have me say?" (A Course In Miracles)

Is prayer a willingness to see differently… oh, but God please help me, a willingness to let go of judgement and control, forgiving the person who confronts and frustrates you/me and ultimately learning to forgive ourselves.

Is prayer is sharing our unique gift with this world, the one that is only ours to give? Is  prayer is a sweet offering to Love?

Prayer is never ceasing.

This is a challenging post! I never thought of prayer as a connection between daytime life and nighttime with its dreams. However, last night, I did dream about being a major league baseball player: I was eager to go to bat but nervous about playing right field, and whether I would be able to throw the ball back to the infielder, since I’m not as strong as I used to be.
Yes, I realize that this dream reflects aging concerns, but it also reminds me of my physical zest for life in all my myriad hopes, dreams, and experiences. Sports of all kinds have been a major part of my physical life, and now I can see sports as part of my “spiritual” self as well. Thanks for stretching my comprehension!

Provocative, challenging questions, Liz – so what is prayer? May our daily endeavours to pray lead us deeper and deeper into the Mystery who is awaiting us at every moment.

A bridge can be the path from darkness to Light..
The answer to praying without ceasing is for the path “Second star to the right and straight on ’til morning” and then look “Under the Rainbow”.
    Or perhaps from Kabir ~
Don’t go outside your house to see the flowers.
My friend, don’t bother with that excursion.
Inside your body there are flowers.
One flower has a thousand petals.
That will do for a place to sit.
Sitting there you will have a glimpse of beauty
inside the body and out of it,
    before gardens and after gardens.
    Also from Kabir ~
When you really look for me, you will see me instantly—you will find me in the tiniest house of time.

First, I LOVE this photograph of yours – not just that it is a bridge but that it is a bridge at night. Not just a bridge a night but how you have caught the curves so that the lights are gold stars illuminating this curved path. Not just this gold-stared pathway but the reflections of each light multiplied and transformed in their reflection in water that ripples and fractures and elongates them.
Now comes Nouwen’s challenge and yours – what about prayer? The curved bridges and its lights and the myriad reflections tell us what prayer can be if we simply nudge it into our hearts and being – an unceasing pattern of lights rippling messages of love – ceaselessly.

Hi Terry! Wow, what a vivid dream you had. I love the symbolism in dreams and love when we receive ones such as yours.
I have a few friends who receive the most beautiful dreams that are a prayer answered and Spirit sent…
