Ty cc by jen 2018-07-16 at 11.33.47 AM  My little granddaughter walks from shadows to sun holding hands with Love & Safety. That is who my son is to her as their silhouettes trail them into their House of Memory. Twenty years hence she will recall her father's loving care.

Since to be alive is to remember we each occupy Memory's House. Who lives in yours? Whose images line the walls? Which ghosts whisper down the hallways of your nights?

My father's strong & caring voice is with me every day. My mother is there more by her always-gracious presence then by her words.

We all live with roomfuls of advisers: the kind, the wise & the mean. Without knowing it, we equip each & every inhabitant of our House with a range of powers including some they never had.

Every story is woven from recollection & is populated by characters of our choosing. We gain new power when we realize how to change the stories that haunt us & enrich the ones that have brightened our lives.

In our House of Memory live many caregivers. Pick one that will nurture your life today.

What a precious image paired with your eloquent prose, Erie. Yes, this is a time for remembering our loved ones who may have left this earthly realm but are very much alive within our hearts. To be mindful for the way our friends & family bless our lives today & how we too can offer kindnesses that may ripple out beyond our knowing; for surely yours travel for and wide to gift others.

The study of how human memory works is intriguing.
We store the emotions from the memory in one part of the brain, the details in another and we story the meaning, significance, and wisdom of the memory in still other parts.
When a smell, photo or thought triggers the memory, we call on all of these areas of the brain to construct how we “remember” the past in this specific moment.
It is interesting to think about how we can alter that memory, or how we reconstruct it, to better serve us.
