"The love, kindnesses, and value we have given authentically to others will be our remaining treasures at the end of life.” – Steve Brunkhorst

In today’s extremely challenging world with so many negative voices clamoring for your attention, what is a reasonable and kind response?  Individuals sometimes trespass upon my personal rights; we all suffer human illnesses, disasters and challenges from time to time, and our national politics is discouraging at best.  But how to respond?

I realize my limited ability to facilitate change in my world and often need to “retreat” to just being myself.  I try to be authentic and caring with everyone I meet.  I strive to be more patient when responding to family, friends, and strangers at reunions, shopping centers, churches, and varied social events. Most importantly, I try to recognize their God-given gifts of special talents and skills. I encourage their best behaviors and actions. Negative responses can be extinguished using this approach.

Is this enough to do?  No.  Some will also follow careers of social services. Some will be political activists pushing for meeting the needs of the less fortunate. Others will volunteer their services in different ways in community organizations addressing the human needs still unmet. And many will offer financial gifts through donations to worthy causes.  Find a cause that appeals to you and will enable you to use your unique gifts. Then simply give kindly of yourself one way or another!

I appreciate your inquiry Terry, “Is this enough to do?” as you point out, we all have our part to play based on what we are passionate about as well as our natural God given gifts. What matters is that we do engage and show up in whatever way we are meant to.
I love the closing quote you chose to share…thank you for your inspiring message as I am reminded that, “There is no order of difficulty in miracles. One is not ‘harder’ or ‘bigger’ than another. They are all the same. All expressions of love are maximal.” -ACIM
