St.PatRain is falling heavily, greening the land; blessing us with the promise of new life.

I turn to John O’Donohue for just the right blessing that I might offer you on this St. Patrick’s Day. Instead, I discover that John’s introduction on the meaning and purpose of blessing is in and of itself a profoundly beautiful gift. If you have not chanced upon his book, “To Bless the Space between Us” you must do so with intention.

Unique to blessings, is the way they help us to connect with the sacredness of life’s passage. A blessing creates a pause for us to honor and celebate our being together. John O'Donohue fashioned, “The language of a blessing is a calling forth, a recognition of the miracle of being here, on the shoreline of pure arrival. Blessings are also an acceptance of the transitory and terminal nature of all the gifts that have arrived; they need not come.”

As natural as the movement of our breath, a blessing connects us in Spirit. As we breathe in we can savor, affirm, and acknowledge what has been. Then as lightly as the next breath, what must can float free on a blessing of kindness and Love. In reverence, we ready ourselves to cross the next threshold of our being.

Our connectedness to one another bonds us to our world, amidst the grandeur of our evolving universe, and of all that lies within and without us.

There is an intimacy of Love beyond our comprehension, however that does not mean it is any less real; this miracle of you and me.

Thanks, Liz. You and this online community of thoughtful people are blessings to me when I share your beautiful art and thoughts. I had not yet pondered the “shoreline of pure arrival” nature of blessings, such a wonderful perspective.

Interesting how we all respond to the vibrancy in your mandala, Liz. You have created an image of stardust.

sometimes it would take a friend to remind us the daily shower of blessings we missed to perceive or with the gift of John O’Donahue’s writings, we could hear a blessing… as this one:
“May you know the wisdom of deep listening,
    The healing of wholesome words,
The encouragement of the appreciative gaze,
    The decorum of held dignity,
The springtime edge of the bleak question.”
