Vermont Trees_n"Rivers,
ponds, lakes and streams — they all have different names, but they all contain
water. Just as religions do — they all contain truths."
-Muhammad Ali

Trees don't question, they receive water's blessing and simply soak up nourishment into their being.

Humans often think, if only we try a little
harder and harder still; the pieces might fit together securely. How
fool hearty for us to ignore, in our determination to be in control.

It is easy
to miss what we cannot see, to think we are set apart. Yet, all the while Love’s
invisible energy is present, awaiting our notice.

Tune in and listen to this gentle voice of truth; your truth, mine.

Why resist? rather than acknowledge, even  befriend the underlying stream of emptiness.

I am the bird that flutters against your window in the
morning,

and your closest friend, whom you can never know,

blossoms that light up for the blind.

I am the glacier shining over the woods, so pale,

and heavy voices from the cathedral tower.

The thought that suddenly hits you in the middle of the day

and makes you feel so fantastically happy.

I am the one you have loved for many years.

I walk beside you all day and look intently at you

and put my mouth against your heart

though you're not aware of it.

I am your third arm, your second

shadow, the white one,

whom you cannot accept,

and who can never forget you.

“Yet all the while, Love’s invisible energy is awaiting our notice.” Thank you Liz for the invitation you have uttered in your reflection this week – an invitation to be contemplative, to notice, to see. Only yesterday I read again the address by Rowan Williams to the Bishops gathered in Rome a few weeks ago. In it, while talking about contemplation, he describes God as the first contemplative. For further pondering, eh? “Love’s invisible energy awaiting our” ‘contemplation’. Blessings be yours, Liz.

Your image of the Vermont trees is exquisite, Liz. You capture both the delicacy and the weight of trees emptied of their leaves. In doing that so well, you set the stage for the truth and power of nature and of life. Thank you.
