Days: 234-235 Peace

I once attended a retreat led by Fr. James Finley and he began each centering prayer in a beautiful way (as recited below)…

Be Stiil and Know

A still small voice echoes through time and space; "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." John 14

Regardless of any religious affiliation or not of a particular belief or not, there are many paths that lead us from duality into union with the One who loved us into being. Beyond words, is a message so simple, yet difficult to comprehend…in stillness may we come to know our unknowing for our unraveling reveals an inclusiveness of all.

    Reduce the extraneous to the core. There are thousands of books about the Bible but there is only the One.
    Millions of words said about Christ Jesus but there is only the message to be heard.
    Reduce the noise and turn inward to refine the spirits.
    Contemplate, meditate and be still with the now, though it takes time to know the stillness.
    Be a grape and evolve with the stillness of time, transform to be the fine wine.
    We are so impatient to experience the future that we run past our now with God.
    Fr. James Finley is a marvelous person to read or to listen to. He studied with Thomas Merton, the famous Christian mystic. I happen to be lucky to be studying with a monk that exchanged letters and thoughts with Thomas Merton. It turns out they had some lively back and forth thoughts/interpretations about the scriptures. But if I did not slow down and look around, I would not have experienced that energy.
    Earlier this week I was listening to a podcast discussion with Richard Miller. In it he discusses his iRest Meditation and its use in helping people with PTSD and other traumas. Last night I started Fr. James Finley and Caroline Myss’s book Transforming Trauma, where everyday events can be a trauma to the spirit. Earlier this month I was finishing up the book Being Still: Reflections of an Ancient Tradition by Jean-Yves Leloup. All of these have a common thread as shown with Liz’s journal page. Be Still and Know. Be Still. Awaken and Be.

    There are many situations in life we go through and we ask the “why’s”, “how’s” and “when’s” and tries to solve some problems by ourselves but cannot. We need to me reminded time and again that our Loving Lord is present with us at all times and He is beseeching us to depend on Him – “Be still and know that I am God”. The outcome is in His Hands.
