Sparks at Music City Roots copy 2 "The Boss" takes the stage. Mid-performance a photographer captures Springsteen shouting passion. In Madrid, a museum visitor views "Guernica," Pablo Picasso's giant painting that screams war's agony. Read "I sing the body electric" & experience Walt Whitman's wild & focused passion.

Passion takes the stage whenever Minton Sparks (pictured) performs. That is why she has been called the greatest spoken word artist since Mark Twain. Except Sparks' sings & dances in addition to speaking her creations. "I live into the story," she says.  Minton Sparks laughing mid performance - erie chapmanAs she laughs, cries & voices her characters we can see her offering every gift of her body & spirit. Former Bob Dylan musician, John Jackson, adds his colors. Together, they awaken the hearts of those who appreciate brilliance.

When genius appears in any form Passion's face is sure to shine. Beneath the spirit's crust Passion's fire fuels grimace & shout. But, nearby, Serenity's underground stream whispers.

T.S. Eliot wrote that art is always "one person talking to another." The same conversation occurs whenever a patient & caregiver share Love's communion chalice.

Bruce-springsteen_show_2011_1705 Anyone can fake passion. Genuine artists & healers (same thing) engage long periods of silence to sew Truth's clothes. With quiet courage they work & wait, listening for Love's voice so they can marry it to their own.

Thank you so much Erie for recognizing my work. We have always said it was a genre-less pursuit.
Also, your recent recognition of the arts as a healing path has been inspirational.

I need to see Minton Sparks perform live! Erie, let me know the next time you are going to attend her performance.
Loved this: T.S. Eliot wrote that art is always “one person talking to another.”
and this: Genuine artists & healers (same thing) engage long periods of silence to sew Truth’s clothes. With quiet courage they work & wait, listening for Love’s voice so they can marry it to their own.
    Thanks for sharing Erie!

Another beautiful reflection, Erie that reminds us that art, passion and com-passion manifests in many forms. I especially see this in communication. A listening heart, being present without necessarily speaking to fill up the awkwardness of silence, or letting go of our agenda and expectations can open space for the sacred to enter in.
Your photos capture Minton’s essence; in such a lovely way.

The passion of what you do. The willingness of someone to listen begins the conversation. The revolving personal worlds intertwine to have a connection. Bruce Springsteen connects with us through his words and music. Minton Sparks connects with us in her performances of life. Erie, you connect with us through your work on behalf of all of us. Thank you for helping the humanity be kinder to one another…
