Days 350-351 No Room at the Inn

Advent 2017

The meaning of Christmas can become obscured by commercialism and the whirlwind of activities that accompanies this season. We worry, about so much to  do and so little time. It can crowd out the mystery and beauty of love's unfolding. Quiet reflection reveals the deeper truths of Christmas and the relevance it holds in our lives today.

As Mary and Joseph traveled, they searched for a place to rest but there was no room at the inn. So they journeyed forth into the dark night and came to rest in a stable where  Jesus was born. Even though they were crowded out, Love found a way in.

James Finley offers a wonderful analogy between this Holy night long ago and contemporary times.  I invite you to pause for a few minutes from your busy day and listen to this incredibly beautiful Advent reflection. Discover the precious gift that awaits you.

    Thanks for this authentically done reminder to “leave the busy inn and head to the stable or the quiet, which we all can find if we simply stop what we’re doing, and rest quietly for even a few minutes. God will find us or we will find God–always there, always present, always loving, and eternally smiling on our lives!

    James Finley, like Richard Rohr, has a simple way of getting to the truth of the words – the meanings.
    Like the circular focus in Liz’s artwork, the outside embellishes the inner. The truth is what is inside and flows outward.
    During Mr. Finley’s Advent Meditation I heard the cry of the child he talked about and also reflected “What Child is This?”
    This Child is God is Love.
    Child is God
    God is Love
    A cry in a manger…
