"I believe in the sun, even when it rains." ~Anne Frank

Love is all there isThere are so many troubling occurrences in the world today, locally, in communities, in our nation and globally.

The universe is filled with polar opposites that ultimately make up a whole; such as day and night, sun and moon, hot and cold, life and death, love and fear. Opposite forces that may be in tension but are not separate from one another,  rather inextricably connected. One cannot exist without the other.

When I feel disheartened by the travesties that occur each day, I am heartened to think of all the unsung heroes who quietly bring light into our world through generous acts of caring.

One such caregiver comes to mind and a family member had this to say, “I appreciated how she would sit bedside with my mother to talk, pray, and hold her hand when she was in pain or not feeling well. The prayers and positive companionship, as well as the excellent care she received, had a positive impact on her spirit as she helped my mom keep a strong connection with God in her last months. She would sing in French in a soft soothing voice so that her home and even the dogs would become calm and peaceful.”

Ordinary human beings with an extraordinary capacity to share their creative gifts  for the benefit of others. These “caregivers of wonder” bring light where there is suffering, kindness amid despair and a listening heart where there is discord.

There are many faith traditions, spiritual paths and names for God but they all lead to One unifying force; Love.

Do not lose heart.

So, so true Liz. The many unsung heroes who do not reach the headlines but touch ever so deeply the heart of those fortunate enough to be in their care by their outpouring of love, expressed in many different yet profound ways. May we continue to acknowledge, rejoice in and celebrate the kindness, generosity and love of others.

All the light. The stars from above. Escaping the darkness of light pollution and one sees so much more. The stars above us. The stars around us. Individual caregivers. As your eyes adjust you see even more. Galaxies of caregivers. How did I not see all those around me. Exhale and say Om. Reach out and say thank you. Love.

“A listening heart where there is discord” is such a wonderfully written part of your piece on the wonder of care giving! How many times have I been discouraged or fretful and sat with a true friend of mine and talked little but shared much and was comforted?
This friend Jon is now recovering from a bad stroke; can speak and walk a bit but is unable to swallow. But he recently gave me a good bottle of wine because he knows how much I love good wine. True friendship like this is closely linked to a sense of caring, one of wonder, and is recycled among human beings with God’s help!

Terry, thank you for sharing about your meaningful relationship with Jon. I can imagine how much it means to Jon and to both of you in sharing moments of companionship, fostering connection and minimizing isolation. A true generosity of spirit in the ebb and flow of a loving friendship. God bless you both!
