Days 201-202 Sometimes Even the Moon Needs to Rest

One of the goals of the JSW is to offer a space for respite for caregivers who may visit for a momentary pause of reflection. I offer this blessing in a spirit of hospitality & gratitude to you for your light filled presence in our world.

A Blessing for All Who Serve in the Ministry of Health Care

May rest find you
In the peaceful moments when all is still,
In the quiet times when you pause
And breathe.

May rest find you
In the chaos of the moment,
In the sorrow you seek to heal.

May rest bless you and strengthen you.
May it fill your spirit
And give you unearned joy.

May you find rest in the care of others,
In the knowledge of your worth,
The values of your service.

May the One who gives rest
Bless you and hold you close.
And may you, in your very being,
Be a place of rest for others.

Amen.

    Thank you for passing along this loving and restful message along with your beautiful abstract watercolor, Liz. Amid all our striving it is so comforting to read /Sr. Juliana’s prayer including:
    May the One who gives rest
    Bless you and hold you close.
    And may you, in your very being,
    Be a place of rest for others.
    Earned or unearned may peace come to all – especially to caregivers who need this peace to “be a place of rest for others.”

    Liz, what a captivating first line in the prayer by Sr Juliana, ‘May rest find you’.
    How appropriate Liz that you offer the image of the moon as we are remembering that wonder-filled moment fifty years ago when the small step for man and a huge step for mankind was taken. I also recall the words of Buzz Aldrin
    “I’d like to take this opportunity to ask every person listening in, whoever and wherever they may be, to pause for a moment and contemplate the events of the past few hours, and to give thanks in his or her own way.”
    May we continue to allow rest to find us and for us to find rest so that we can truly pause and contemplate.

    Soothing, reassuring piece of writing, Liz! Have to love the moon “resting”. Perhaps the sun was meant to “fire” up our caring gifts and the moon to cool them off with peaceful rest at end of day. This wonderfully simple cycle has offered us human beings respite after all the challenges of helping one another on our way.
    Thank you Liz, for all your care of all of us caregivers everywhere as we try to lessen the pain of those we meet whether they be our family members, our patients or clients, or the old, unshaven man at the next traffic light we stop at. By so doing, we help them but actually help ourselves even more!
