Chalice-2019When I think of peace I think of a world where people are no longer brutalized on account of such accidents such as birth as sex, race religion, or nationality.

For me, peace is a way of structuring human relationships where daily acts of kindness and caring are tangibly rewarded.

It is a way of thinking, feeling, and acting where our essential interconnection with one another are truly honored.

I pray for a world where we live in partnership rather than domination;

where “mans” conquest of nature” is recognized as suicidal and sacrilegious;

where power is no longer equated with the blade, but with the holy chalice;

the ancient symbol of the power to give, nurture, enhance life.

And I not only pray but I actively work, for the day when it will be so.

    First of all, thank you for creating such a superb illustration of Eisler’s writing with your pencil drawing, dear Liz. As for Riane’s writing, her appeal is the poignancy and power of a pioneer spirit; of someone with the strength to match her beautiful, feminine point of view and must, indeed, be a world view to counter the awful power men so often exert. It does not seem an accident to me that every single one of the mass shootings in America have been committed by men. What is it in our culture that someone signals to males that violence is the a solution rather than a perversion of the best in human nature. What is it in the heart of the leader of the free world that makes him think that white nationalism is a good idea? It may be useful to recall that Naziism is word German’s used to describe their form of nationalism in the 1930s through 1945.

    Yes, and I say Amen to that Maureen, we need to re-imagine the world rather than continuing down a path of mutual self destruction. A change of consciousness is needed from fear to love.

    Thanks so much for your thoughtful response, Erie. The questions your raise are helpful for self reflection and for us to look deeply into our hearts. Riane Eisler grew up in Germany during the time frame you reference and her short video is a powerful and frightening reminder as we witness the tragic events unfolding in our country as well throughout so much of our world.
    It doesn’t have to be like this…
