Native American-Faith Keeper

In many Native American traditions, one member of the tribe will assume the role of “Faith keeper”.

The role of Faith keeper is to remain peaceful and calm, while maintaining spiritual enlightenment and understanding, no matter what the tribe may endure.

Under extreme conditions, if every single tribe member stumbles into fear, doubt, anxiety, worry and pain, the Faith keeper maintains peace, spirituality and understanding.

Therefore, the Faith keeper is looked upon as the mainstay to the “I AM” presence of  God, Great Spirit or Creator.” (Anonymous)

Who are the Faith keepers in your life?

We can all benefit from a Faith keeper, especially when feeling stressed or overwhelmed in these days of uncertainty. Often we search outside of ourselves for the answers. Yet, Spiritual truth encourages us to take the road less traveled; the journey within. Each of us has a guiding light, a still small voice that is ever present and as close as our breath. Befriend your personal Faith keeper. Set aside a few minutes in the morning to cultivate a listening presence.

The need to center ourselves in love and renew our spirit in order to love others  is a universal call to wholeness.

Note:  I came to this  quote/photo  this past week by a friend. Her sister sent it to her as an expression of appreciation to her for being a Faith keeper in their family during a recent crisis. Her story left an impression and I wanted to share this with you as well. In an attempt to give proper credit, I searched the web and found the photo and quote on various sites. One site indicated the author was an Elder wished to remain anonymous.

Faith keepers are those who, in times of greatest grief or sorrow or misfortune, still stay attuned to those who need them. Their gift of presence and ability to settle down fears and unfounded concerns, makes them critical, often as caregivers, for all of us. And, of course, one day I am a caregiver and then the next day am a receiver of care. The common ground we all stand on is the caring for each other!

How precious is that Liz. The story of the Faith Keepers, which was new to me, is not only inspirational but also a call to each of us to be faith keepers to those in our midst. Thank you, Liz, for being a faith keeper and encourager through your journal entries.

So happy this resonated with you as well Maureen. I guess we all get a turn at being Faith keepers depending on the situation and what we are called to do.
You are the Faith keeper for so many. God bless and keep well!

It is YOU, Liz. you are one of two faithkeepers for me. The other is my dear friend up in Toledo, Ohio, Tracy Wimberly. The two of you share the ability “to remain peaceful and calm, while maintaining spiritual enlightenment and understanding, no matter what the tribe may endure.”
I am going to copy and send this to Tracy since she rarely reads the Journal.
Meanwhile, profound thanks to you for I am certain you are the faith keeper for so many others! This your gift and your calling and you have cultivated it beautifully.
Love and blessings and gratitude to you!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful affirmation Erie, which means a lot to me. We are Faith keepers for one another! I am thrilled to know you will share this with Tracy! I think the JSW has provided a forum for encouraging one another and I am exceedingly grateful for your loving blessing! BTW, I love the new look of the Journal!
