Flowering It has been said “we live our life forward and understand it backward.” This is true as we look back over this challenging global pandemic, complex disasters amid a marathon of effort, grief, isolation, change and the multiple stresses faced as a nation. Recognizing our need for renewal offers the opportunity for reconciling the emotional impact of COVID in these difficult times.

Physician and author Rachel Naomi Remen writes, “Reclaiming ourselves usually means coming to recognize and accept that we have in us both sides of everything. We are capable of fear and courage, generosity and selfishness, vulnerability, and strength. These things do not cancel each other out but offer us a full range of power in response to life. Life is as complex as we are. Sometimes our vulnerability is our strength, our fear develops our courage, and our woundedness is the road to our integrity.”

Dear God, Spirit, Divine Mother,

On this day I ask You to grant this request.

May I know who I am and what I am, every moment of every day

May I be a catalyst for light and love and bring inspiration to those whose eyes I meet

May I have the strength to stand tall in the face of conflict, and the courage to speak my voice, even when I’m scared

May I have the humility to follow my heart, and the passion to live my Soul’s desires

May I seek to know the highest truth and dismiss the gravitational pull of my lower self

May I embrace and love the totality of myself, my darkness as well as my light

May I be brave enough to hear my heart, to let it soften so that I may gracefully choose faith over fear

Today is my day to surrender anything that stands between the sacredness of my humanity and my divinity

May I be drenched in my Holiness and engulfed by Your love

May all else melt away

And so, it is

Amen.

Prayer by Debbie Ford

You will never know the far-reaching effect of your efforts that continues to ripple out in profound ways.  May the blessings you bestow return to you tenfold!

Thank you Liz for sharing the touching, encouraging prayer by Debbie. Am thrilled to know that you will be delighting in family time and other treats as your country ‘wakes’ up again. For myself I continue to ponder the call to the fullness of life that is part of this pandemic. Am I more inclusive, am I more understanding, am I more generous? In what ways have I allowed the pandemic to challenge and transform me?

    Thank you, Liz.
What I have gotten from Rachel Naomi Remen’s writings is her Experience of Mystery which leads to Hope. Transcendence. That is also seen in the poem/prayer by Debbie Ford. Drop yourself into life. Experience the Divine.

“…our woundedness is the road to our integrity.” Thank you for quoting Dr. Remen so perfectly here, Liz. She and I were both told we had Crohn’s Disease at young ages and both told we might not live past 40. Thank God she is now 83 (and I am still hanging around myself.) Somehow, our wounds gave us strength and she has contributed brilliantly and wisely to the world for all of her beautiful career.
Thank you for Debbie Ford’s prayer. And thank you also for your frequent and beautifully painted reminder from Rumi that “the entrance door to the sanctuary is inside you.”
