In honor of Black History month I wish to share this 2.5 minute conversation between a father and son, Albert and Aidan Sykes who discuss growing up black in Mississippi.

Albert and Aidan Sykes Storycorp

"Did you know that the work Martin Luther King was doing was for everybody?"

"Dad, the thing I love about you is that you never give up on me."

"Live with your hands unfolded."

What a beautiful message! Is there a word or phrase that resonates with you?

One of the most sad yet uplifting videos I have ever seen. Love the dreams he has for his son. Unfortunately he has to curb those dreams with the reality of being black in Mississippi. We should not give up on the future we told our kids about. Civilization does not have to be a science fiction plot hole or a black hole. The future should be opening ones hands and releasing our gifts…
Thank you for opening your hands Liz.

Thank you, Liz, and thank you Jolyon, for your encouragement around this spectacular story and video. I never heard or thought of the image the dad presents so beautifully at the end of this video. The whole thing is life changing – like YOU!!
