Angel of light

The following story was written by a nurse colleague,
Dayna Ayala RN

My great grandma was diagnosed with lung cancer and shortly
after was admitted to hospice. Most of the time she didn’t have any pain and
after a few weeks she would tell my grandma that she could see my great grandpa
standing by the window watching her, even though he had passed away about 10
years earlier. She said that he called her by name, and sometimes too, told her
to come with him.

One morning my great grandma shared that she had dreamed of
beautiful angels flying above her bed and she wanted to reach up and grab one
but couldn’t because she wasn’t strong enough. Her daughter (my grandma) told
her that the next time she saw the angels, to reach up and hold on as hard as
she could, that it was okay to go with them.

The next morning my great grandma was found lying in bed
with her hands clenched tight. She had held on to an angel and passed away in
her sleep.

This beautiful phenomenon is often reported when a loved one is transitioning
from this earthly life.  Angels and loved ones come to greet and accompany us.

Have you ever witnessed a transcendant moment such as this?

Special thanks to Dayna Ayala RN for sharing this  gift of the Spirit.

A very nice painting and a touching story Liz, but it dose make one want to avoid seeing angels.

Thank you Liz for the beautiful painting. I feel our loved ones even though they have passed years ago are watching over us and even trying to meet our needs through visions, dreams etc. I have had a Hospice patient with some vision impairment see her brother standing in the hallway waiting for her to join him. I have had my personal experience myself. I was staying in a remote town doing my duties as a nurse. I have had my deceased father whom I loved dearly come to me in my dream when I was laying in a hospital bed with sciatic pain and one of my lower extremities tethered to a traction with weights. I had a dream one night and the scene was outside a beautiful well lit big building like the hotel near Lake Louise in Canada. He took me by my hand and and said “come with me, why are you suffering”. I told him that my time was not yet. Then I woke up. I believe our loved ones though they are absent in the flesh still cares for us and it is a comforting thought.

Wow what an amazing story. I’m sure it must have been comforting to know that her great grandma had passed away with angels guiding her. I feel that the conversation shared between the great grandma and her daughter is what helped the great grandma die in peace and gave her that okay to let go. This is truly a touching story and thank you so much for sharing.

    Hi Alicia,
I am so glad you raised this important point. Yes, I agree and appreciate this nuance in Dayna’s story. It is so true, our loved ones often hang on until they hear those words…it is okay to go. I have witnessed this many times with patients and family members and with my father.

Thank you for sharing how your dad came to visit you in your dream, Suan.
My mom shared with me how her mother came to visit her in a dream. It was shortly after she had passed. She said it was so vivid that she is not sure she dreamed it or if it really happened. Her mom appeared to her in the kitchen and she was so happy to see her that she called out, Oh mama! and then she disappeared.
