Enjoying the Present…or Not

Yes. We all have done the same thing this nurse during a few of our work moments – or perhaps in many. The wise among us celebrated their calling every day. That is surely how I felt.

If you loved your job you may love it even more looking back. You and I are grateful for our careers of service. If you always resented the job, you may be glad you “escaped.” Endless variations on this describe all others.

Above is my third cartoon*. I turned to this because it is short, suggests fun, and will be read by those who may not read this.

Sending the very best congratulations to all and especially to first line caregivers who labored so long and hard to bring their love to meet the profound needs of the sick and wounded.

Yes. I miss my jobs and the chance to influence so many lives as CEO at Riverside, Toledo; Riverside Methodist and OhioHealth, Columbus; and Baptist Hospital Systems, Nashville.

Now, in this moment, I celebrate those years. Fortunately, because of my charitable foundation supporting Radical Loving Caretm I am not done and the work of the foundation will continue after my passing.

    You have been an inspiration to so many through the years and into the present as well as the future, Erie. Your visionary leadership and innovative ways to engage, support and affirm frontline caregivers fostered positive work environments in which caregivers felt valued and enabled them to do their best work, while loving what they do and in creating cultures of RLC. Thoughout your incredible esteemed career and beyond you continue to inspire, celebrate and acknowledge caregivers as well as mentor and shine light on the good work of nurses and those who had an opportunity to work with you. They overwhelmingly remember and continually express their deep gratitude for lighting the way and carrying the torch.

    Thank you Erie for all you have given for the sake of others…and for all you continue to give.

    BTW, I love this new creative way you are choosing to shares ideas and celebrate the work of Radical Loving Care and celebrate those who strive to live love.

      YOU are the inspiration, Liz! It has always been in a challenge in your work and mine to keep the light bright and clear against the headwinds of disease and existence of mediocrity in caregiving in so many parts of so many hospitals.

      Glad that, in large part because of YOU, we are still going in this new and pesky-to-master blog site.

      Thank you for encouraging my new cartooning. It is another way to carry our message. YOU do the same with your artwork, use of poetry, and great writing. Sending love and blessings to you and your family!
